When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you'll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do every day.Position Summary:The Electronic Systems Principal Component Engineer position will report into the HARMAN Best Cost Analytics organization and will be responsible for the development and delivery of "should be" cost models covering HARMAN's Automotive Electronic Systems including amplifier, infotainment and telematics products. - The developed cost models will establish Design-to-Cost targets that will be utilized by HARMAN teams including Engineering and Procurement.Job Responsibilities:Utilize internal and external databases to build cost models that will establish Design-to-Cost targets for HARMAN Automotive productsDefine the HARMAN "best practice" cost reference for the following electronic systems to a component level:Infotainment Systems with and without DisplaysTelematics Control Units (TCU)Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS)Car Audio Amplifiers SystemsAnalyze cost breakdowns from supplier quotes and understand all cost influent factorsLead the technical definition and implementation of electronic system cost modeling solutions, including the identification of analytics that enable trend data to be established.Develop close technical relationships with suppliers to identify best cost solutions, including emerging technologies that provide cost improvementsWork with Engineering & Product Sourcing teams during the new business quoting phase to establish reference cost targetsSupport Procurement teams during negotiating events with target costingUtilize cost models and associated data to train HARMAN teams on Design-to-Cost best practices based on developed cost modelsBasic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in engineeringMinimum 5 yrs work experience in the following areas:Cost engineering of electronic systemsVA/VE of electronic systemsDesign & development of electronic systemsElectronic system component engineeringExperience with complex semiconductor components including applications processors (System-on-Chip devices), micro-controllers, memory devices, tuners as well as wired and wireless networking devicesProven technical leadership with demonstrated ability to lead and review the work of other cost engineersDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical topics through structure solutions. - Must be able to influence others to drive alignment on proposed technical solutions.Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to effectively present complex technical topicsExperience working in a fast paced, highly measured, results focused environmentPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in electrical engineeringExperience with automotive electronics is highly desirable, including experience selecting and/or recommending automotive grade electronic componentsDemonstrated ability to breakdown semiconductors component costs into the constituent costs including die, testing, assembly and packagingDemonstrated ability to share knowledge and best practices with teammatesProven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively work with all levels of a global matrixed organizationAccepts overall accountabilityChange Orientation: Able to adapt to changing demands and conditionsEligibility Requirements:Willingness to travel 10% of the time.Preferred work location at Harman's Novi, MI office.Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.What We OfferAccess to employee discounts on world-class HARMAN/Samsung products (JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG etc.)Inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages career development opportunitiesFlexible work schedule with a culture encouraging work life integration and collaboration in a global environmentProfessional development opportunities through HARMAN University's business and leadership academiesInternal talent management leadership acceleration programs"Be Brilliant" employee recognition and rewards programScholarship programs for employee family membersHARMAN is an Equal Opportunity /Affirmative Action employer.
