About the Role

The Sr. Principal Optical Engineer will be responsible for delivering display and camera products from requirement analysis to mass production. This role must have experience in optical technology investigation, optical design, optical system integration, optical property characterization, and root-cause analysis.

Your Team

This is a development engineer role in Digital Cockpit Strategic Business Unit.

What You Will Do

* Participate in the RFI/RFQ phase with requirement review and concept development.


* Develop optical system concepts, design optics, and characterize optical system performance.


* Support global Digital-Cockpit and ADAS product and platform development activities.


* Benchmark competitive products, technologies, and intellectual properties.


* Work with cross-functional teams to manage supply chain, cost, and quality of products.


* Research, review, investigate, and identify emerging technologies.


* Introduce updated technical developments to internal and external audiences.



What You Need

* Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field with at least 12 years of working experience in optical related industries


* Expert with optical design tools including both sequential and non-sequential ray tracing tools, and optical bench


* Good experience and knowledge in LED, laser, thin film filter, polarizer, and manufacturing technology


* Strong knowledge of wave optics, radiometry, and color science


* General knowledge of ergonomics, mechanical, material, electronics, and computer engineering



What is Nice to Have

* Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field with at least 6 years of post-graduation working experience


* Experience in the automotive display industry, the automotive lighting industry, or the automotive manufacturing industry


* Proven track record of IP filings, conference presentations, journal publications, or product development programs


* Experience in using a high-level programming language for optical property calculation and simulation


* Experience in augmented reality technologies, flat-panel displays, head-up displays, or camera systems



What Makes You Eligible

* Be willing to travel up to 20%, of domestic and international travel


* Be willing to work in an office in Novi, MI


* Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
