About the Role
The Senior Principal Optical Engineer will be responsible for
delivering head-up displays from requirement analysis to mass
production. You will need to have experience in optical technology
investigation, optical design, optical system integration, optical
property characterization, and root-cause analysis. You will
collaborate with systems, mechanical, electrical, and software
engineering to meet design constraints and optimize design.
What You Will Do
- Lead the optical development of head-up displays (HUD) with
best cost solution.
- Employ computer aided simulation tools to design and optimize
head-up displays (HUD) to meet customer requirements.
- Define suitable mirror optical coating to improve luminance as
well as reduce solar loading
- Employ strategies to reduce stray lighting inside the HUD
- Iteratively improve design to pass design (DV) and process
validation (PV) cycles.
- Interface with design teams locally and globally to ensure
robust product design.
- Participate in design reviews with customer (OEM) in design
competition for resolving system implementation issues, ensuring
customer requirements are met.
- Help establish optical test facility and build a strong optical
knowledge base for future opto-mechanical product line.
- Apply past experience, lesson learnt and strong engineering
principles to improve DFMEA
- Follow customer product development milestones as well as
internal program management processes for successful milestone
deliveries and fulfill quality gates.
- Benchmark competitive products, technologies, and intellectual
properties.
- Participate in the RFI/RFQ phase with requirement review and
concept development.
- Work with up level manager and functional head to provide
strategic technical planning, interaction, prototyping, and
leadership for company's long-term HUD business development
together with cockpit development.
- Build strong relationship and knowledge of the corresponding
supply chain together with procurement team, quality team and
global design teams.
- Research, review, investigate, and identify emerging
technologies.
- Support global Digital-Cockpit and ADAS product and platform
development activities.
- Work with cross-functional teams to manage supply chain, cost,
and quality of products. What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Physics, or related field with at least 12 years of
working experience in optical related industries
- Expert with optical design tools including both sequential and
non-sequential ray tracing tools like Zemax optical design software
or Code V, and optical bench analysis
- Good experience and knowledge in LED, OLED, TFT, LCD, DLP,
laser, thin film filter, polarizer, IR/UV cut filters and
manufacturing technology
- Experience with reflective, refractive, diffractive,
P-polarization, S-polarization and holographic optical element to
achieve illumination and imaging.
- Experience with CAD design tools like NX, CATIA
- Experience with optical measurement devices to measure and
characterize HUDs.
- General knowledge of ergonomics, mechanical, material,
electronics, and computer engineering What is Nice to Have
- Ph.D. degree or Masters in Optical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Physics, or related field with at least 6 years of
post-graduation working experience.
- Experience in the automotive display industry, the automotive
lighting industry, or the automotive manufacturing industry
- Proven track record of IP filings, conference presentations,
journal publications, or product development programs
- Experience in using a high-level programming language for
optical property calculation and simulation.
- Experience in augmented reality technologies, flat-panel
displays, NeoQLed, DMD, head-up displays, or camera systems
- Experience with CODE V and Speos software
- Knowledge of wave optics, radiometry, light field technology,
holographic optical element (HOE) film, HOE projector, UST
projectors, windshield projectors, and color science
- Experience working with optical vendors for material selection
including design and molding, resin selection etc.
- Working knowledge of tooling and manufacturing processes,
vendor management, material selection, design for manufacturing,
design for assembly, DFMEA, kinematics, GD&T, BOM creation.
