POSITION: Literacy Interventionist

LOCATION: Novi Middle School

SCHEDULE: Full Time

SALARY: Per the NEA Agreement

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide individual or small group literacy intervention to students identified for support through our Multi-Tiered System of Support. Provide push-in support within classrooms to identified students in literacy. Support classroom teachers with Tier 1 and Tier 2 instructional strategies/practices for striving learners.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education/Certification

• Valid Michigan Teacher Certification
• Fountas and Pinnell, Reading Recovery, Orton-Gillingham and/or other training related to intervention programs
• Experience working with middle school students as an effective middle school teacher or interventionist
• Ability to design and work a flexible schedule within the middle school building
  Preferred Experience/ Skills
  
  • Reading Endorsement (BR/BT endorsement)
  • Interventionists must demonstrate a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mindset and approach to their work
  • Advanced coursework in literacy
  • Strong preparation and experience in literacy instruction
  • Strong preparation and experience with literacy assessment and testing
  • Ability to use data to inform practice
  • 3-5 years of experience as a literacy specialist, possessing professional knowledge and skills about research-based intervention
  • Ability to work with classroom teachers and support classroom ELA instruction
  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers on strategies and best practices for striving learners
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated strong communication and organizational skills when providing intervention and support to students
  • Willingness to acquire skills in new content and instructional methodology based upon current research as neededRESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
    
    • Reports to the Director of Student Support Services
    • Creates and executes intervention plans to support striving students in the area of literacy
    • Uses data to inform daily, weekly, and annual plans for intervention; progress monitors ongoing interventions
    • Collaborates with literacy specialist team to ensure interventions are successful and appropriate across the district
    • Collaborates and communicates with building principals about processes related to supplemental services provided
    • Collaborates and communicates with teachers within buildings related to supplemental services provided
    • Collaborates and communicates with Student Support Teams to inform student progress in the process of Child Find; Special Education Evaluation or Section 504 Evaluation
    • Communicates benchmark and year-end assessment/ data reports to appropriate stakeholders related to success of interventions provided
